Minister David Umahi confirms the 750km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway alignment remains completely unchanged.
Nigerian Minister of Works, David Umahi, has confirmed that the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project remains completely intact and will not be altered.
Speaking in Abuja after briefing President Bola Tinubu, the minister stated that construction activities are actively ongoing across multiple states along the designated route.
Surveyors and designers are currently assessing alignments across several regions, according to information published by The Sun Nigeria.
Status of Ongoing Construction Sections
Umahi provided a comprehensive update on various sections of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, noting rapid progress across the board. The 147.47-kilometre Section One in Lagos is currently under construction.
Additionally, Section Two, spanning 55 kilometres on each carriageway, is expected to reach completion by the middle of November.
Work is also advancing on Sections 3A and 3B in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, where projects have achieved over 40 per cent completion rates.
East-West Road Integration Proposal
In addition to the coastal project, the Ministry of Works has requested presidential approval to integrate an additional 400 kilometres of the East-West Road.
This proposed extension would stretch from Edo State through the Niger Delta to Akwa Ibom and Cross River states to improve regional connectivity.
Umahi noted that parts of the existing route are vulnerable to flooding, citing recent infrastructure damage around Abaro in Delta State.
Northern Legacy Road Expansions
President Bola Tinubu has also approved the expansion of significant legacy road projects in the northern region of the country.
The initial 700-kilometre corridor covering Akwanga, Jos, Bauchi, Gombe, Biu, and Maiduguri now includes routes through Langtang and Wukari.
This expansion brings the total combined length of the northern transport infrastructure initiative to approximately 1,100 kilometres.
