Raul Asencio reportedly rejected lucrative Chelsea offer to remain at Real Madrid

Raul Asencio, the promising center-back from Real Madrid, has reportedly turned down a significant transfer proposal from Chelsea during the recent summer window. Despite a lucrative contract offer aimed at bringing him to the Premier League, the 23-year-old defender opted to stay in the Spanish capital to fight for his place in the first-team rotation under Carlo Ancelotti.

Premier League giants eye the Spanish defender

According to reports from the Spanish outlet Marca, Asencio was a primary target for several top European clubs after being made available for transfer at the conclusion of the last season. Both Chelsea and Liverpool were identified as the leading candidates interested in securing the defender's services.

The London club allegedly presented a "mega offer" to entice the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge. The move would have potentially seen a reunion with Xabi Alonso, who the report claims was linked to the project, following their brief time together during Alonso's coaching tenure at the Bernabeu.

Commitment to the Bernabeu project

Despite the financial incentives offered by the English clubs, Asencio remained steadfast in his desire to succeed at his boyhood club. The defender is determined to compete for a starting position in a Real Madrid defense that has faced various availability challenges in recent months.

While Chelsea eventually bolstered their defensive ranks with several new signings, including Valentin Barco and Maxence Lacroix, Asencio's decision to stay highlights his confidence in breaking into the elite rotation in Madrid. His opportunity for consistent minutes may arrive sooner than expected as the club manages its domestic and European schedules.

Future prospects in the first team

Asencio's loyalty to the Merengues comes at a time when the club is carefully managing its defensive depth. With various tactical shifts and the physical demands of the season, the young Spaniard is poised to make his mark. His first appearance of the campaign could be on the horizon as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures in La Liga.
