National Orientation Agency trains community stakeholders against violent extremism in Kebbi South Senatorial District.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has spearheaded a high-level capacity-building workshop targeting community stakeholders against violent extremism across eight local government areas in the Kebbi South Senatorial District.

This initiative forms part of the ongoing constituency outreach programs championed by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, aiming to bolster grassroots security awareness and foster a united front against all forms of criminality in the region.

Presiding over the training on behalf of the national headquarters, Zonal Director Alhaji Hamisu Abubakar Meyere explained the purpose of the session, according to information published by The Sun Nigeria.

Community Stakeholders Workshop Against Violent Extremism

During the intensive capacity-building event, 100 participants drawn from the eight local government areas gathered to learn about the strategies and dangers associated with regional extremism.

Alhaji Hamisu Abubakar Meyere underscored that combating insecurity requires proactive community engagement, moral reorientation, and a collective resistance against criminal elements operating at the grassroots level.

Distinguished scholars and religious leaders delivered comprehensive lectures to enlighten participants on the severe societal consequences stemming from violent extremism and radicalization.

Islamic Perspectives and Moral Frameworks on Security

Prof. Abdulkareem Lawal of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, represented by Lawal Garba Sheik, spoke extensively on Northern Nigeria security realities and Islamic foundations during the workshop.

He emphasized that Islam provides a comprehensive moral framework, noting that the Qur'an establishes the absolute sanctity of human life and explicitly condemns aggression, corruption, and injustice.

Citing religious texts, Prof. Abdulkareem Lawal explained that wanton destruction and banditry under the guise of protecting religion represent a dangerous misinterpretation of sacred teachings.

Christian Perspectives and Multi-Dimensional Peace Building

Rt. Rev'd Dr. Ayuba Kanta, Bishop of Zuru Missionary Diocese and State CAN Chairman, observed that violent extremism takes root through poisoned minds, deep-seated grievances, and intolerance.

The Bishop highlighted that true peace is multi-dimensional, differentiating between negative peace and positive peace achieved through justice, human dignity, and sustainable coexistence.

He appealed to the public to realize that effective resilience demands credible leadership, religious literacy, and the eradication of extremist narratives through accurate theological education.
