Popular TikToker Salman Olamide reveals how working in a bar helped her finance her Higher National Diploma in 2022.
Nigerian actress and TikToker Salman Olamide, widely known as Kidbaby, recently revealed that she took a job in a bar back in 2022. She needed the income to successfully raise money for her Higher National Diploma programme.
The disclosure was made during a recent appearance on Barricades Live with Adewunmi, a popular podcast hosted by fellow content creator Wunmi Star. During the interview, the rising star shared intimate details about her journey to educational and career success.
Kidbaby explained the financial hardships that led to her taking the bar job, according to information published by punchng. Her personal story highlights the resilience required to overcome unexpected economic challenges in Nigeria.
Financial struggles after a family tragedy in 2010
The actress recounted how her family experienced a major financial downturn after her father was involved in a serious accident in 2010. Before the tragic incident, the household was financially comfortable, allowing her to attend a prestigious school.
Everything changed instantly following the accident, leading to a very difficult period for the family. Despite growing up in a well-educated Islamic household, Kidbaby had to navigate sudden poverty and find alternative ways to support her education.
Overcoming childhood misconceptions about her grandmother
During the podcast, Kidbaby also discussed her previously strained relationship with her grandmother. She admitted that cultural and generational differences initially created serious misunderstandings between them during her early years.
Disagreements over language preferences, such as speaking English instead of Yoruba, and dining habits like using cutlery, led the young Kidbaby to jokingly suspect her grandmother was a witch before they eventually resolved their differences.
Embracing content creation and filmmaking careers
Transitioning into the entertainment industry, Kidbaby described content creation, storytelling, filmmaking, and fashion as natural outlets for her creativity. She noted that the online industry is both lucrative and highly fulfilling for her.
She emphasized that acting comes as naturally to her as spiritual inspiration. Furthermore, when discussing her personal identity, she firmly stated that she connects more with Ijebu-Ode, the city where she grew up, rather than her father's hometown.
