Inter Lagos name Olusanjo Olutayo interim head coach following Shakiru Giwa departure in the NPFL.
The Nigeria Premier Football League club Inter Lagos have officially appointed Olusanjo Olutayo as their interim head coach. The decision comes following the recent departure of their former manager, Shakiru Giwa, from the Lagos-based football side.
The management announced the coaching change on their official social media page to prepare the squad for upcoming fixtures. This tactical shift arrives during a difficult campaign for the newly promoted team in the top flight of Nigerian football, according to information published by sports247.
The club hopes that bringing in Olusanjo Olutayo will provide a fresh technical direction and help reverse their poor run of form. The interim manager immediately inherits a squad struggling for momentum in the 2026/27 domestic football season.
Shakiru Giwa Leaves Inter Lagos After NNL Promotion Success
Former head coach Shakiru Giwa stepped down from his position on Tuesday, October 13, leaving a notable vacancy at the club. Giwa previously played a massive role in guiding Inter Lagos from the Nigeria National League up to the elite NPFL.
That successful promotion marked a historic milestone for the ambitious Lagos club. However, the step up to the top division proved intensely challenging, leading to mounting pressure on the technical crew before the recent resignation.
NPFL Struggles Force Immediate Technical Change
The newly promoted side has unfortunately struggled to make a competitive impact in the top flight this season. Their opening eight league matches produced zero victories, leaving the team desperate for a positive tactical turnaround.
Their latest setback occurred on Sunday, October 11, when they suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat away against Warri Wolves. That result left Inter Lagos sitting with only two points from their first eight matches of the campaign.
Next Fixture Against Nasarawa United in the NPFL
The newly appointed interim coach faces an immediate challenge to prepare the squad for their next league fixture. Inter Lagos are scheduled to play against Nasarawa United on Sunday, October 18, in a crucial encounter.
This upcoming match presents a vital opportunity for the club to begin a fresh chapter under their new leadership. Management has not yet clarified whether Olusanjo Olutayo will assume the role on a permanent basis.
