Discover Canada's new immigration rules offering extra Express Entry points for high-paying jobs starting November 2026.
Canada has unveiled a strategic list of high-paying occupations to help skilled workers secure additional points under its popular Express Entry immigration system, with sweeping reforms scheduled to take effect on November 3, 2026.
Announced by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, known as IRCC, on October 16, the major changes are designed to attract and retain global professionals whose specific experience matches the country's economic priorities and pressing labour market needs.
Under the revised Comprehensive Ranking System, eligible candidates could receive up to 100 additional points for a qualifying job offer, according to information published by The Sun Nigeria.
Comprehensive Ranking System Point Adjustments
Under the updated Comprehensive Ranking System, successful applicants with qualifying Canadian work experience can earn additional points based directly on their specific occupation wage level. Lena Metlege Diab, Canada's Minister of Immigration, stated that the nation is competing globally for essential talent.
The federal government has also removed the Labour Market Impact Assessment requirement for qualifying job offers. This adjustment helps applicants easily meet job offer requirements under the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Eligible High-Wage Occupations and Categories
IRCC has grouped all eligible occupations into three distinct wage levels, using official Canadian wage data covering the period from 2023 to 2025. This classification relies on the national median wage for each profession rather than an individual applicant salary.
The highest wage category covers roles with median wages at least twice the national median. Included professions range from computer and information systems managers and engineering managers to specialists in clinical and laboratory medicine, surgeons, and family physicians.
Public Administration and Professional Roles
The extensive high-wage list also features senior government managers, financial managers, human resources managers, university professors, lawyers, and Quebec notaries. Additional leadership roles involve commissioned police officers, fire chiefs, and corporate sales managers.
IRCC officials confirmed they will continue verifying all job offers rigorously to ensure they are completely genuine and fully comply with standard Canadian immigration requirements before awarding points.
Simplifying Immigration for Employers and Applicants
Minister Lena Metlege Diab emphasized that these targeted reforms will help officials identify and retain skilled newcomers who are best positioned to succeed economically in Canada.
By removing administrative hurdles, the updated framework makes the broader Express Entry system significantly more responsive to real-time labour market demands while simplifying the entire process for employers.
