An Asus gaming monitor blocked a stray bullet during a late night Call of Duty session.
A Reddit user known as antisocialnae experienced a terrifying ordeal on November 2, when a stray bullet flew through the wall of their home. The incident occurred during a late-night gaming session while the user was playing Call of Duty on a personal computer.
Realizing that the loud bangs outside were real gunfire, the player dropped to the floor and immediately dialed 911. Upon checking the room after speaking with the operator, they discovered a bullet hole in the wall and realized the projectile had struck their primary display, according to information published by dexerto.
The stray round was successfully trapped inside the hardware unit, preventing a potential tragedy. The player expressed immense relief after surviving the incident, noting how close they came to sustaining serious injury or having their entire computer build destroyed.
Asus TUF gaming monitor absorbs impact
The display that stopped the incoming round was an Asus TUF VG258QM 280Hz model, which the user had purchased for $280 five years ago. This specific piece of hardware was part of their very first gaming setup.
The projectile did not create an exit hole, meaning the internal components of the display absorbed all the kinetic energy. The user admitted to crying once everything calmed down and the reality of the situation set in, realizing the device literally took a bullet for them.
