Bank of Industry partners with Renaissance to fund Nigerian oil and gas contractors.

The Bank of Industry has officially joined the relaunched Renaissance Vendor Financing Scheme as a partner bank in Lagos, bringing a subscribed portfolio of US$4.1 billion and N435 billion to the table.

The strategic partnership aims to improve access to essential development financing for indigenous contractors and vendors operating within Nigeria's critical oil and gas sector.

This major financial framework was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony involving Renaissance and 13 financial institutions, according to information published by The Sun Nigeria.

Expanding Oil and Gas Sector Financing

The collaboration enables the Bank of Industry to deploy its core development financing expertise and advisory services to support eligible Nigerian businesses executing contracts for Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited.

This initiative is specifically designed to ease severe funding constraints affecting project mobilisation, equipment procurement, payroll obligations, and other essential contract-related requirements across the industry.

Shekarau Omar, Executive Director of Large Enterprises at the Bank of Industry, stated that the participation reflects a strong commitment to improving access to development finance for local enterprises.

Deployment of Contract Finance Facilities

Under this new arrangement, the financial institution will provide vital capital through contract finance facilities, invoice discounting facilities, and eligible local and international purchase orders for qualified vendors.

Operational responsibilities will include thorough credit assessment, disbursement, facility servicing and recovery, alongside holding security over financed instruments subject to applicable regulatory requirements.

Financing will remain available exclusively against valid Renaissance contracts, supported by advanced contract verification and payment control mechanisms to strengthen transaction visibility and repayment management.

Boosting Local Content and Job Creation

The refreshed scheme builds upon a previous vendor financing platform established during the Shell era, which historically disbursed approximately US$1.3 billion with a zero non-performing loan position.

This modern initiative directly aligns with the core objectives of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act 2010 by supporting indigenous business participation and capacity development.

Program projections estimate a total employment impact of 7,500 jobs, which includes 3,000 direct and 4,500 indirect jobs depending on financing uptake and project execution.
