Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy is set to make his long-awaited season debut against Arkansas after recovering from a shooting.
Missouri Tigers running back Ahmad Hardy is reportedly set to make his highly anticipated season debut this Saturday during a crucial conference matchup against the Arkansas Razorbacks.
ESPN reporter Pete Thamel indicated that the star running back is expected to play limited snaps and receive a handful of carries as he reintegrates into the team's offensive gameplan following a lengthy recovery process.
The return comes after Hardy suffered severe complications from being struck by a bullet during a shooting incident at a concert in May, according to information published by bleache.
Ahmad Hardy shooting recovery and return to practice
Following the May 11 shooting incident, Missouri announced that Ahmad Hardy underwent immediate surgery and remained in stable condition while recovering. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz noted that there is no exact blueprint for an athlete returning from a gunshot wound.
Although Drinkwitz maintained a cautious approach regarding a definitive timeline, Hardy officially returned to practice this week. The coaching staff plans to ease the standout athlete back onto the field against Arkansas with limited touches.
Impact on the Missouri Tigers offense and Jamal Roberts
Before the unfortunate shooting, Ahmad Hardy established himself as one of the premier running backs nationwide, earning consensus All-American honors and a Doak Walker Award finalist nod after rushing for 1,649 yards.
During his absence, teammate Jamal Roberts stepped up brilliantly for the Missouri Tigers by accumulating 867 rushing yards, 105 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns to maintain a respectable 5-2 start to the season.
Upcoming schedule for the Missouri Tigers
The Missouri Tigers currently hold a 2-2 conference record and enter this weekend looking to rebound from a disappointing 31-3 blowout loss suffered against Ole Miss in their previous outing.
Integrating Ahmad Hardy back into the active roster provides a massive offensive boost as the team prepares for a demanding stretch of remaining conference matchups against formidable opponents like Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky.
